This initiative unites 29 leading laser research institutions from 15 countries, creating a central platform that provides unprecedented access to advanced laser technologies and services for scientists and industry professionals alike. With a budget of €5 million, Lasers4EU serves as the successor to the Laserlab-Europe project, offering not only transnational access but also comprehensive training programs to equip users with essential theoretical and practical skills in laser applications.

Lasers4EU aims to streamline access to high-quality laser services, enhance the European laser research landscape, and foster the next generation of laser scientists. By integrating the expertise of its diverse Access Providing Infrastructures (APIs), the project ensures a coordinated and comprehensive offering that supports both academic research and industrial innovation. Sylvie Jacquemot, the project’s scientific coordinator, emphasized the importance of diversity and collaboration in maintaining Europe’s leadership in laser science and technology.

The project officially commenced with a successful kick-off meeting held from October 21-22, 2024, in Heraklion, Crete. The two-day event brought together all project partners to outline the goals for the next four years, establish governance structures, and foster collaborative relationships. Highlights included presentations on project objectives, interactive sessions to ensure smooth coordination, and visits to state-of-the-art laboratories at IESL-FORTH. The meeting concluded with a cultural tour of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, reflecting the project’s commitment to building strong, interdisciplinary partnerships.

Lasers4EU represents the future of European laser research, providing a unified hub for accessing cutting-edge infrastructure and fostering innovation across the continent.
