The Laser Technology and Optical Materials Teaching Laboratory, set up in 2008, has 3 optical tables on which laboratory work is set up. In order to accommodate more lab work on the same optical table, additional measurement equipment is replaced and the same lasers are used. The experimental set-up is designed for: laser marking of plastic and metal surfaces; laser drilling of metal plates with picosecond pulses; measurement of the laser illumination level; spectroscopy of laser-induced damage; study of the electro-optic modulator; generation of the sum frequency; and evaluation of the crystal nonlinearity. In the autumn semester, one laboratory work on optical materials is also carried out here, focusing on the measurement of the reflection coefficient of optical interference coatings over a wide range of angles and spectra.

During the spring semester, kinetic and laser spectroscopy laboratory work is carried out in the Laser Technology and Optical Materials Teaching Laboratory using a picosecond Eksplos PL2200 laser and mock-ups of the laboratory work: measurement of the temporal hardware function of the spectrometer; measurement of the lifetime of the excited state of the molecules; and investigations of the photo-isomerisation of the molecules and of the relaxation of the charges.

In 2012, a 5-axis positioning complex purchased for micromachining was combined with a refurbished PHAROS laser to create a bench for femtosecond pulsed laser micromachining research and related laboratory work. It is used for cutting and drilling of transparent, semiconductor and composite materials. The activities and development of the Laser Technology Training Laboratory are coordinated by Dr D. Paipulas.
