6 July.On the occasion of the State Day, President Gitanas Nausėda awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of the Grand Duke Gediminas of Lithuania to Dr. Arūnas Varanavičius, Senior Researcher at the Centre for Laser Research, Faculty of Physics, Vilnius University (VU).
The VU scientist was awarded for his services to Lithuanian science, innovative research, implementation of fundamental and applied science achievements in industry and promotion of Lithuania's name in the international scientific arena.
Dr Varanavičius' field of expertise is laser physics, specifically ultra-short pulse laser research. In 2004, he received the Lithuanian Science Award. He has supervised more than 20 student theses. He is also a member of the International Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (ELI ERIC).
