Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy (ITPA) since 2018 is a structural unit of the Faculty of Physics of Vilnius University, which carries out scientific and study activities. ITPA has internal autonomy, the limits and extent of which is determined by the Faculty of Physics Regulations and the ITPA Regulations.
Research interests:
- Development of effective methods of mathematical physics and their application in theoretical investigation of many-particle systems, their nonlinear dynamics and of quantum fields.
- Investigations of atoms, subatomic particles, molecules, their structures and plasma spectroscopy, their application in nanophysics and astrophysics.
- Investigations of the structure and evolution of galaxies, stars and interstellar matter.
Base
The Institute is located in the building of the National Center for Physical and Technological Sciences, Saulėtekio av. 3 in Vilnius. The Institute owns the Astronomical Observatory - Molėtai Astronomical Observatory, which is located on Kaldiniai Hill in Kulioniai village (Molėtai district).
