On 17 February, Vilnius University (VU) officially launched the process for developing its strategy for the next five years. This is a significant stage where VU will define its future directions, priorities, and goals that align with the expectations of the community, society, and the international academic world. The success of the VU 2030 strategy depends on the involvement of all community members. Therefore, VU employees and students are invited to actively participate in discussions, propose ideas, shape strategic priorities, and vote for the most significant proposals.
‘We are an outstanding expert educational organisation, but in order to grow, we must develop not only nationally but also internationally. Vilnius University is both a community and an educational institution, so when developing the strategy, it is important to integrate all of these areas: developing research directions, transforming them into clear proposals, and ensuring the coherence of the strategic directions. We must undergo continuous change to become a better employer and a stronger university for students. This requires a clear system for gathering and implementing ideas. Therefore, we invite each one of you to take part in this process by sharing your thoughts on the dedicated platform,’ said Rector Prof. Rimvydas Petrauskas.
The VU 2030 Ideas Platform allows every VU community member – employee or student – to submit their vision for the future of VU. The platform will be active until 1 May, after which the Strategy Development Group will evaluate and discuss the submitted ideas.
The VU 2030 Strategy will define how VU will strengthen its academic leadership, increase international competitiveness, ensure the quality of studies, and make breakthroughs in research. It will also address how VU, as a community and organisation, will operate in a rapidly evolving world. We encourage everyone to be active by submitting ideas and/or voting for other proposals.
The strategy development process will consist of several stages, involving community engagement in proposing ideas, data analysis, new research, and holding discussions with the Strategy Development Group, as well as presenting interim results and conducting public consultations. All these steps will be open, and information about the process will be regularly updated on the intranet, allowing the community to follow the progress and engage in discussions.
The VU 2030 Strategy is an opportunity to create a clear direction, ensure long-term growth for VU, and make a sustainable impact on the academic community and society.
During the implementation of this strategy, VU will celebrate its 450th anniversary, which is why it is also important to consider the significant aspects of commemorating this milestone while shaping the future vision.
Community participation will ensure that the strategy reflects the real needs of both staff members and students, making each contribution valuable.
The platform for submitting ideas can be accessed here.
