The 2024 Lithuanian Science Prize in Technological Sciences for Experimental Development Work recognizes the series “High Power Multi-Optical Cycle Pulse Sources for Extreme Light Technologies (2009–2023)” for its significant contributions to the development of high-power, ultra-short pulse laser systems.
The Lithuanian Science Prize Committee has awarded the 2024 prize in Technological Sciences for Experimental Development Work to the series “High Power Multi-Optical Cycle Pulse Sources for Extreme Light Technologies (2009–2023)”.
This recognition acknowledges the collective contributions of researchers including Jonas Adamonis, Rimantas Budriūnas (Faculty of Physics), Andrejs Michailovs, Tomas Stanislauskas, and Arūnas Varanavičius (Faculty of Physics), with submissions from Vilnius University, the Centre of Physical Sciences and Technology, UAB “Light Conversion”, and UAB “Ekspla”. The award recognizes a substantial body of work that has advanced the development of laser systems used in modern laser science and non-linear optics research.
The series comprises 47 scientific papers published between 2009 and 2023, including 40 papers in internationally recognized journals listed in the Web of Science Core Collection, along with 9 patents, 8 of which are registered with the European Patent Office. These works document the experimental development of high-power, ultra-short pulse laser systems, including the notable SYLOS systems. The SYLOS lasers have been installed at the European Laser research centre, Extreme Light Infrastructure, underlining the practical impact and technical excellence of the research.
This award serves as an acknowledgment of the extensive collaborative efforts among academic institutions and industry partners in Lithuania. It highlights the significance of the documented experimental developments and technological innovations in laser systems, which have already made a measurable contribution to both fundamental research and applied technologies in the field of extreme light.
