Two members of the Institute of Theoretical Physics and Astronomy of the Faculty of Physics have taken new roles in the European Association for Astronomy Education (EAAE) for the 2024–2027 term.

Dr. Carlos Viscasillas Vázquez has been appointed as a member of the Executive Council, while Dr. Šarūnas Mikolaitis has been elected as the National Representative for Lithuania. Both positions were decided this autumn during the General Assembly of the EAAE. The assembly, convened every three years, determines the strategic and operational leadership of the association.

“The EAAE promotes astronomy education across Europe at all educational levels and through initiatives such as collaborative projects, organizing contests and summer schools, fostering knowledge and inspiring the next generations of astronomers”, – explained Šarūnas Mikolaitis.

“The association also partnered with organizations like the European Southern Observatory (ESO), the European Space Agency (ESA), and CERN, supporting contests and events such as “Catch a Star”, “Physics on Stage” and “Science on Stage”. The EAAE also has collaborations with the European Planetarium Network”, – said Carlos Viscasillas Vázquez.

The EAAE was founded in 1995 and is preparing to celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2025.
